Useful Screenshot Shortcuts for Windows

A quick reference for the Windows screenshot shortcuts that come up most often. Keep this handy if you take screenshots regularly and want to skip the menus.

| PrtScn | Copies the full screen to the clipboard |
| Win+PrtScn | Saves a full-screen PNG to Pictures > Screenshots |
| Alt+PrtScn | Copies only the active window |
| Win+Shift+S | Opens the snip tool to select an area, copies it to the clipboard |
| Win+G | Opens the Xbox Game Bar, which has its own capture tool |
Which one should you use?
For most day-to-day use, Win+Shift+S covers it: you pick exactly the area you need, and it's ready to paste immediately. Use Win+PrtScn when you want a saved file without any extra steps, and Alt+PrtScn when you only care about one window and want to skip cropping out the rest of your desktop.
After the shortcut
