Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This policy explains what sshot.online collects and how it is used.
What we collect
- Uploaded files and links you submit, plus basic metadata (size, dimensions, timestamp).
- Technical data such as IP address and browser type, used for abuse prevention and aggregate statistics.
Browser extension
The sshot.online browser extension captures a screenshot only when you actively trigger it — clicking the toolbar icon, using the keyboard shortcut, or selecting an area to capture. It never captures a tab in the background or without your action.
- Screenshot data — the captured image is sent to sshot.online's upload endpoint only when you choose to upload, copy, save, or share it. Simply capturing and annotating an image locally in the editor does not upload anything.
- Google Lens search (optional) — if you click "Search image with Google," the extension uploads the image (if not already uploaded) and opens Google Lens with the resulting public share link. This step only runs when you explicitly click that button, and only the link is sent to Google, not the raw image file.
- Clipboard — when you click "Copy" or after a successful upload, the extension writes the screenshot image or share link to your clipboard. It never reads your existing clipboard contents.
- Storage — used only to briefly hand a captured image off to the editor tab; nothing is synced to sshot.online's servers beyond the screenshot itself.
- No account, no analytics inside the extension — the extension itself does not include any analytics or tracking code; it only talks to sshot.online's upload endpoint as described above.
Permissions this extension requests
- activeTab — lets the extension see and capture the tab you're currently on, only after you click the toolbar icon, use the keyboard shortcut, or choose a capture option. It grants no access to any other tab.
- scripting — injects the on-page region-select and annotation overlay into the active tab when you start a capture.
- storage — see above.
- clipboardWrite — see above.
- contextMenus — adds a right-click menu item to open the image editor.
- Host access to sshot.online — lets the extension upload your screenshot directly to sshot.online's servers from its background service worker, so a website's own security policy (CSP) can never block the upload. It does not grant access to any other website.
Notably, the extension does not request the broad "tabs" or "history" permissions — it cannot see the URLs or titles of tabs other than the one you actively capture.
